The purpose of the study is to analyze the linguistic characteristics in North Korean middle school Korean language arts (KLA) textbooks and to explore their educational meaning. I acquired North Korean KLA textbooks from the Information Center on North Korea, converted it to text corpus (hwp file) using Hangul program, and converted it to text file on computer. As a result of analysis of ’North Korean KLA textbooks corpus’ using AntConc3.2.4w, I found the following in formation. (1) One of the most frequent and meaningful words is “kyeongae- ha-neun” (literally meaning venerable). (2) Concordance analysis of “kyeong-ae-ha-neun” shows that the word appears only before North Korean head of state. (3) Collocation analysis of “kyeong-ae-ha-neun” shows that the occurrence of two or more words such as “kyeong-ae-ha-neun”+“a term referring to thr North Korean head of state” in declarative manner. The so-called “kyeong-ae-ha-neun” phenomenon in North Korean textbooks is a means to impose the significance of North Korean head of state and the impression of him on North Korean students.
