This study is an attempt to conceptualize Korean language ability on ecological perspectives. Especially it focuses “Character” in domains of Korean language ability. Character as Korean language ability concentrate a notion, “character competency”, which is emphasizing a practicality among various discourses. So-called “Korean subject character competency” need to be discussed, the ability in ecology study could be adopted for it. And this study look at the literacy in ecological ability discourse due to a language with a relation to Korean language education. Particularly, the “ecological literacy” has very close connection with character discourse, because both of them give attention to relations and communication between objects. So ecological literacy have three components, “knowledge to aware relationship”, “caring as sustaining relationship”, and “practical competence to imply it to a world”. These three components provide a conceptual path to an operant concept “Korean subject character competency”. Korean subject character competency divide into “individual” and “social” dimension. Each of them makes a pair with “awareness” and “caring” of ecological literacy. So, Korean subject character competency based on ecological literacy could be conceptualized to aware relations of text communications in an individual dimension, to develop communication of the humanity in a social dimension.
