일본의 구연동화 역사는 제국주의의 확대 양상과 함께 특수한 발달형태를 보인 일본의 독자적인 아동문화형태임에도 불구하고 본격적인 연구가 이루어지지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이는 문자가 아닌 음성언어로 이루어진 장르의 특성으로 인한 자료 수집 정리의 어려움에 기인하다. 본 연구는 일본에 구연동화활동이 성립, 정착되어 가는 과정을 검토하고 그 양상을 고찰하고자 함에 주된 목적이 있다. 그동안 구체적으로 논의된 적이 없었던 삼대 구연동화가와 삼대 구연동화회의 존재에 대해서도 살펴보고 최종적으로 일본에서 발생한 구연동화활동이 식민지 조선으로 전파되어 가는 과정을 밝히고자 한다.

The history of Japanese storytelling was a uniquely developed children’s culture of Japan, which was expanding with Imperialism. However, there has never been a thorough study of the subject because of the difficulty in collecting such diverse information that was developed by spoken language and was rarely recorded in a written format. In my paper, I will examine the development of the storytelling process; as it started and became established in Japan, with a look into the environment of that time. I will introduce the existence of three of the greatest storytellers/lecturers from that time period which have not been studied and discussed before. With this paper, I will bring clarity to the development of storytelling from its beginning and development in Japan and as it propagated into colonial Korea.
