이 논문은 언간 자료에 나타난 경어법적인 문제 가운데 일부 대명사와 상대경어법 등에 대해 논의한 것이다. 언간 자료에는 방언적인 요소, 가문적인 요소, 그리고 상황적인 요소 등을 감안하여 경어법을 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 그중 ‘자네’는 현대국어에서는 윗사람이 아랫사람에 쓸 수 있지만 언간 자료에는 아내가 남편에게 쓸 수 있었는데, 이는 대체로 경상도 방언을 반영한 자료에 한정된다. 그리고 현대국어에서는 방언에 따라 아랫사람이 윗사람에게 ‘자네’를 사용하기도한다. 남편이 아내를 가리키는 ‘게셔’는 ‘그+에셔’나 ‘거기+에셔’에서 축약된 형태로 볼 수 있는데, 지시대명사의 곡용형이 인칭대명사로 전용된 것이다. 인칭대명사로서의 ‘게셔’는 <순천김씨묘출토언간>에 처음 나타난다고 볼 수 있고, 그 후에 추사가 언간에 집중적으로 나타나 추사의 가문어로 볼 수 있다. 우암의 편지에는 제자의 처와, 제자의 아내이면서 종손녀, 그리고 종손부에게 보내는 편지가 있는데, 각각 다른 상대경어법을 보여 준다. 이것은 사회적 관계와 혈연 관계를 고려한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 다만, ‘유배자’라는 신분과 경어법과는 별 다른 관련이 없는 것으로 드러났다.

This research aimed at discussing some pronoun, Honorific System for Hearer, etc. among the honorific problem in the Korean old vernacular letters. Particularly, it is necessary to examine honorifics by considering dialectal factor, family factor, and situational factor, etc. in Korean old vernacular letters. Among them, ‘jane’ can be used by the elder on the junior, however husband could use on wife in the Korean old vernacular letters, which is mostly limited to the material which reflected Gyeongsang-do dialect. ‘Gyesyeo’, which husband indicated wife, can be said to be the abbreviated form of ‘geu+esyeo’ or ‘geogi+esyeo’, which was diverted form to a personal pronoun from a demonstrative pronoun declination. ‘Gyesyeo’ can be said to firstly appear in , which can be said to be the family language of Chusa family. In Uam``s letters, there were letters to the disciple``s wife, granddaughter who was disciple``s wife, and grandson``s wife, each of them showed different honorific system for hearer. This can be seen to consider the social relationship and blood relationship. However, Uam showed no meaningful relation between the position of exile and honorifics.
