본 연구는 일본의 57개 FTA 발효국과 준비국을 중심으로 1990년부터 2013년까지 패널자료를 이용하여 일본의 FTA 체결로 인한 교역증진 효과를 실증분석하여 현재 일본과 FTA 준비국과의 FTA 체결 이후 교역효과에 대한 시사점을 도출하고자 한다. 중력모형이론에 준실험적 방법으로 이중차이 추정법을 삽입하여 일본의 FTA 발효 효과 도출을 시도한다. 패널 단위근 검정과 패널 공적분 검정을 시행하여 시계열 특성을 포함한 패널변수의 정상성을 확인한다. 실증분석 결과에 따르면, 첫째 일본의 교역은 실질GDP와 1인당 국민소득에 비례하고 거리에 반비례하는 중력모형이론과 일치한 결과를 가지며, 둘째 환율변수는 유의적인 양(+)의 계수로 추정되어 일본의 전체 교역에서 수출보다 수입 비중이 더 크고 환율이 높아질수록 전체 교역량이 증가하고, 셋째 패널GLS모형에서 이중차이 추정결과 높은 유의수준에서 긍정적인 FTA 효과를 나타낸다. 결론적으로 일본의 교역은 기본중력모형과 일치하며 환율변수를 통하여 역수입구조가 강한 일본 교역의 특성을 보여준다. 더욱이 FTA 발효로 인한 교역증진 효과가 긍정적인 결과로 도출된 것은 이제껏 제한적인 관세철폐를 유지하며 중국, 한국보다 FTA 정책에 미진하였던 일본 FTA 추진 행로에 긍정적인 전망을 시사한다.

This paper shows the trade enhancing effects of Japan FTA through gravity model and DID(Difference in Difference) estimator. The model is estimated for aggregate exports and imports using an annual panel data covering 57 countries from 1990 to 2013. Its study conduct the panel unit root test and the cointegration test for stationary. According to the results of the empirical study, firstly, it shows Japan trade similar to the gravity model with the trading countries. Secondly, to control the specific characteristics of the Japanese trade we include exchange rate which has a positively significant effect on Japan trade. It means the ratio of import is higher than export in the Japanese trade volumes. Thirdly, as a result of the DID estimator at the panel GLS model, there is a promoting effects on the Japanese trade volumes when we compare the conclusion of FTA to the preparing FTA with Japan. Consequently, the positive significant on the conclusion of the Japan FTA through the DID estimator presents a positive outlook of the trade effects on the preparing FTA with Japan.
