본 연구는 서울과 경기도에 위치한 전문대학 학생 225명을 대상으로 진행된 설문 결과에 기초하여,전문대학에서 실시되고 있는 교양으로서 국어교육의 현황과 전망에 대해 고찰했다.전문대학 학생들은 대부분 읽기,쓰기,듣기,말하기 와 같은 국어능력이 부족했다.특히,능동적 읽기와 논리적 의미 구성 능력이 부족한 것으로 드러났다.이는 전문대학에 진학하는 학생들의 부족한 기초학습 능력에서 기인한다.특히,전문대학에서 적지 않은 비중을 차지하고 있는 특성화고 출신 학생들은 고등학교 때 제대로 된 국어교육을 받지 못한 경우가 많았다. 그리고 문학을 중심으로 한 국어교육에 의해 읽기, 쓰기, 듣기, 말하기와 같은 국어 능력이 소홀히 다루어지는 경우도 없지 않아 있었다.그러나 많은 전문대학 학생들은 국어교육의 필요성을 인식하고 있었다.뿐만 아니라 전문직업인이자 동시에 글로벌 민주시민을 양성해야 하는 변화된 전문대학의 교육 목적 역시 국어교육의 필요성을 높였다. 왜냐하면 국어교육은 읽기, 쓰기, 말하기,듣기와 같은 의사소통 능력을 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라 창의력, 비판력, 문제해결력,논리력 등과 같은 사유의 힘을 기르는 데에도 도움이 되기 때문이다. 그러므로 전문대학 학생들을 고려한 적절한 교수법만 갖추어진다면, 전문대학에서의 국어교육은 보다 의미 있는 교육 효과를 낳을 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

The study observes Korean language education for junior college curriculum based on the survey following 225 junior college students in Seoul and Kyonggi area. The survey found that most junior college students have poor Korean language skill. Among others, they were found to lack active reading and construction of logical meaning. The biggest reason is that they have a poor basic learning skill. In particular, specialized high schools, many of the junior college students graduated from, often offer an inappropriate curriculum for Korean language education. In addition, the students easily confuse Korean language education with literature education, which is only a part of the former. When language education is confused with literature education, its purpose is hard to be achieved. Junior colleges should establish sound Korean language curriculum with the focus on its true purpose and the demands of the students for that. If it is provided with proper education methods, Korean language curriculum at junior colleges will provide substantial results.
