The stone-builded statue of Vairocana Buddha of Naewonsa-Temple in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do is the oldest one with a record in the world. A epigraphic carved on a sarira bowl found in Stone Pedestal has not fully been deciphered. Especially, the epigraphic of the base side of sarira bowl is illegible. We tried to decipher the epigraphic. And we interpreted the Idu record written in the base side, but not that of body. This epigraphic is very important Idu material. We know the main purpose of building the stone-build statue of Vairocana Buddha through interpreting the epigraphic. The former studies have deciphered 22 letters on the base side of sarira bowl, but we found 4 more letters. The decipherment of the first and second line of epigraphic is not different, but the third and forth lines of it are very different form that of the former studies. The decipherment of the former studies on the third line was ‘二個反藥者’ or ‘二個反藥者還’, but our reading is ‘一二個反藥者大’. And that on the forth line was ‘上百寶爲趣`` or ‘病口爲逐’, but our reading is ‘弘病一無爲趣교’. The photograph with high resolution of image of a sarira bowl presented by Busan Museum gave a great help to our studies. The main purpose of building the stone-builded statue of Vairocana Buddha was to return Du-on-e-rang(豆溫哀郞)``s favor on the one hand and to be the very exhaustion of widely spread disease on the other hand.
