The purpose of this article is to examine the significance of the writings in Japanese and the lingual consciousness of the dramatist, Kim Woojin. So far, the study on Kim Woojin has focused on constructing the image of a writer who was self-consciousness about the colonial Choson and emphasized on ``the revival and reform of the Korean language.`` Meanwhile, the Japanese writings, created during his stay in Japan as a foreigner student, have been excluded from the study objects in the precedent studies. Thus, this article included his previously-excluded Japanese creations into its study object as the text to understand a life and literature of Kim Woojin, analyzing the meaning of Japanese writing in relation to his lingual consciousness. Through the text analysis in this article by referring to his diary and poetry as a clue to reconstitute his autobiographical life, a hypothesis was suggested that the short story written in Japanese titled as "A person who stands on the cave" is the one which characterizes its heroine close to the image of Yun Shim deok. Also, the other Japanese writing, "how did Bangryeon have her husband recover from the leprosy completely?" was reconstituted from a Korean tale into a story of noble duty of sacrifice. This article considered these two writings in connection with the life of the writer, searching for their creation motives of the narrative of love and the conjugal affection of each other. As a result, this paper revealed that Kim Woojin`s lingual consciousness is divided into the public sphere by Korean and private sphere by Japanese, with the obsession of the lingual nationalism in forming one`s identity as a Korean. This may be attributed to the issue of formation of a modern individual in relation to the language in the formative period of modern novels where conflict and collision between a public sphere and a private sphere occur. In this respect, these two Japanese writings of Kim Woojin were different in various aspects from those of the writers of the colonial Korea who were forced to write in Japanese in the late 1940s. These arguments will contribute to materializing the possibility of Japanese writings and the bilingual consciousness of Kim Woojin, ultimately.
