본 연구는 개별화교육계획(IEP: individual education plan/program) 수립과 실행의 개선과 발전을 위한 방향성을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 선행연구들에서 지적되어 온 IEP 수립과 실행에서의 문제점들과 그에 대한 개선 방안들을 검토하고, IEP 수립과 실행을 위한 하나의 진전방향성을 제안하고자 한다. 현재 교육을 효율성 중심의 경제적 관점으로 보는 것을 탈피하여 교육의 본질을 되돌아보고, 실제적이고 의미 있는 교육이 이루어지기 위해 요구되는 철학적 기반, 현재 특수교육 최선의 실제 및 철학에 근거하여 지적장애학생의 IEP 수립과 실행의 진전방향성을 고찰하였다. 본 연구에서는 특히, 현재 특수교육의 최선의 실제의 하나로써 주목받고 있는 개인중심접근(person-cent ered approach)을 국내 지적장애학생 교육현장의 IEP 수립과 실행을 위한 하나의 진전방향성으로 제안하고자 한다. 끝으로 개인중심접근 철학의 현장에서의 적용과 이를 위한 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

This study reviewed the articles on IEP development and implementation from 2000 to 2015. In this study, the researcher tried to suggest a direction to advance for IEP in Korea. This study reviewed 37 articles focused on the problem and difficulty of IEP development and implementation in schools, and the suggested ways of improvement. The researcher tried to suggest that educators and parents need to reflect the essential meaning of education surpassing the view of the effectiveness & economy. The researcher suggested that we need to think deeply in its philosophical base for the practical and meaningful education for the students with intellectual disabilities. Also, The researcher suggested that we need to focus on the philosophy of person-centered approach which is allied with the current best practices of the special education, in order to find out a direction to advance for IEP. Finally, The researcher provided the suggestion for the application of person-centered approach to the field and the further researches.
