이 연구는 잡지 『朝光』에 대한 연구이다. 이 연구는 『朝光』의 모든 글쓰기와 담론들이 기본적으로 ‘상식’의 자장 안에 배치되어 있다는 전제에서 출발하여 ‘대중성’을 『朝光』의 성격으로 규정지을 수 있는지, 대중적으로 규정지을 수 있다면 어떠한 형태로 대중성이 구현되지를 살폈다. 잡지 내에 다양한 주제와 장르를 통해 다양한 정보와 재미를 제공하였기때문이었다. 『朝光』은 ‘상식 조선’의 기치 아래 ‘상식적 인간’을 주조하려 하였다. 물론 상식이라는 정보에 치중하면서 기획력의 부족과 내용의 빈약함을 보인 것은 사실이지만 상업지로서 대중성을 획득하는데 성공한 듯하다. 그렇다고 해서 『朝光』이 교양을 포기한 것도 아니다. 문학작품은 물론 좌우익 인사들을 모두 필진으로 흡수하여 균형감을 맞추려하고 있는 점은 대중지인 『朝光』의 성격과 특징을 잘 보여주는 예이다. 기획력의 부재가 드러나고 있지만 그럼에도 불구하고 『朝光』이 시도한 장르의 확대나 편집체제의 변화에서 근대적 포털의 모습을 갖추고 있다는데 의의가 있다.

This study mainly focuses on Jogwang, one of the monthly magazines during colonial Joseon era. Jogwang basically provides readers a wide range of information and a lot of enjoyment because of its diverse genres and topics. For this reason, this paper seeks to examine whether it is possible to characterize ``Daejoongseong(publicity)`` as the main trait of Jogwang and if so, how this aspect is described in the magazine. Also, this paper premises that the most of writings and discourses are fundamentally discussed on ``Sangsik(public``s common sense)``. Under the banner of ``Sangsik Joseon(Joseon with common sense)``, Jogwang firstly aimed to nurture ``Sangsikjeok Ingan(human beings with common sense)``. In spite of the fact that the magazine was lack of plot-devising and poor in contents, while primarily focusing on how to convey the information of common sense, it seems to have achieved the public attention as a commercial magazine. Moreover, the magazine not only pursued publicity , but also successfully achieved refinement of contents by publishing a variety of literary works. Plus, it is quite unique and distinctive as a public magazine to hire many writers from both the left and the right wing. Although the magazine has lack of planning, Jogwang perhaps extended literary genres and reformed its editing system. Therefore, the magazine has significance in that it provides us the first shape of modern filed of discourses.
