본고는 ‘조무 서사’를 국내에 수용한 작품군을 대상으로 논의를 전개한다. ‘조무 서사’를 작품의 중심 서사로 활용한다는 점에서 모든 작품들은 동일하다. <조무전>과 <충렬사전>은 ‘조무 서사’의 전개를 크게 바꾸지 않고 조무의 복수 과정에 초점을 둔 작품이다. 이 두 작품은 ‘조무 서사’의 주동 인물인 조무와 대립되는 인물인 屠岸賈의 관계를 중심으로 전개된다. 갈등의 중심은 두 인물에게 있다. <조무전>과 <충렬사전>은 이미 역사적으로 설정되어 있는 이 갈등을 증폭한다. 갈등의 심화를 위해 <조무전>과 <충렬사전>에서는 기존의 역사에서 설정된 사실을 비튼다. 주인공 조무의 先代에 발생한 사건의 주동 인물을 屠岸賈에게로 돌리는 작업이 그것이다. 屠岸賈가 조무의 아버지인 조삭에게 행하는 부정한 행위들은 先代로부터 이어진 악행으로 자연스럽게 받아들여지게 하는 것이다. 또 다른 계열은 ‘조무 서사’의 전개 방식은 유지하면서 작중의 인물명을 바꿔새롭게 구성한 작품들이다. 필사본 <보심록>이 이런 계열의 중심이 된다. 이 작품군은 영웅소설로의 편입을 시도한다. 영웅소설의 필수적인 요소이지만 기존의 ‘조무 서사’에서 찾을 수 없는 것들을 작품 구성에 삽입하는 것이다. 영웅소설에서 공통적으로 서술된 영웅의 탄생 과정은 ‘조무 서사’에서는 필요하지 않다. 주인공조무 자체의 탄생이 기이하기 때문이다. 하지만 <보심록> 계열의 소설들은 영웅적인 활약이 필요하지 않은 아버지 양세충에게 영웅의 탄생 과정을 부여한다. 서사를 이끌어 가는 인물은 아들인 양두성이지만 ‘조무 서사’에서의 조무가 지니는 독특한 탄생 과정이 이미 전제되어 있기 때문에 양두성에게 영웅소설에서의 탄생과정을 대입할 수 없기 때문이다. 이러한 방식을 통해서 필사본 <보심록> 계열의 창작자들은 완전한 영웅소설로 재구한다. 이와 같은 ‘영웅소설의 구도’로 견인하려는 창작 방식을 통해서 당대 영웅소설창작자들의 영웅소설화 하는 방식을 파악할 수 있다. 영웅소설의 시작 부분에 필수적으로 삽입되어야 하는 영웅의 탄생을 삽입하는 것, 대결 구도를 긴밀하게 성립시키기 위해 악인의 신분을 규정하는 방식 등이 영웅소설로서의 필수 조건을 맞추기 위한 창작 전략이라는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

In this study, the argument progresses with a group of works that embraced ``Jomu narrative`` put at the center. They all are identical in terms of using ``Jomu narrative`` as their main narrative. and are works that focused on Jomu``s process of revenge, without changing the course of ``Jomu narrative`` largely. These two stories revolve around the relation of Jomu, the key figure of ``Jomu narrative``, and the conflictory figure, 屠岸賈. The two works amplify this historically set conflict. To intensify the conflict, and distort the established historical facts. One example of the distortion is changing agent of the incident that happened in Jomu``s previous generation into 屠岸賈. The change makes the wrongful acts 屠岸賈does to Josak, Jomu``s father, naturally accepted as misdeeds earlier generation. Another line of works are the newly composed ones with changed names of characters while maintaining the course of ``Jomu-narrative``. The manuscript is at the center of this line. This group of works tries a formalization as heroic novels. In the composition of these works are inserted the essential elements of heroic novels, which can``t be found in ``Jomu narrative`` previously. In ``Jomu narrative``, the birth process of hero, which is commonly described in heroic novels, is not necessary because the birth of Jomu itself is eccentric. But works in the same line as give a heroic birth process to Yangsechung, the father who doesn``t have remarkable activities as a hero. It is because, while the figure who leads the narrative is Yangduseong, the son, the eccentric birth process of Jomu from ``Jomu narrative`` is already premised on him so the birth process of heroic novels couldn``t be given to him. In this way, the writers of manuscript and the like reconstitute the story into complete heroic novels. With this writing method of towing into ``composition of heroic novel``, the trace of formalization of heroic novels that the writers of that time adopted can be grasped. It can be confirmed that inserting the heroic birth which is requisitely inserted in the openings of heroic novels, and defining the position of villain to closely form a confrontation, are strategies of writing to meet the essential requirements as heroic novels.
