본고는 동해안별신굿 마을풍어제 세존굿에서 연행되는 당금아기무가와 동해안별신굿 오구굿에서 연행되는 발원굿 혹은 오구문베리데기무가의 대중적 요소에 대해 연구하였다. 초점은 당금아기와 바리공주에 들어 있는 대중적 속성이 어떤모습인가를 드러내기 위한 연구인데 대중적 속성은 멜로드라마적 속성과 연결하여 비교하였다. 무가와 멜로드라마는 서로 내용면에서나 역사적 전개과정에서 상호 특정한 영향관계도 없으며 장르적 특성도 서로 다르지만 대중을 작품에 몰입시키기 위한 여러 장치가 공통되는 특징이 있기에 상호 비교했다. 선한 인물이 고난의 과정을 지나 복을 받게 된 점, 슬픔의 감정을 유도하고 만연시킨 점, 이를 통해 사람들이 무가내용에 흡입되도록 유도한 점, 그 결과 사람들이 자기만족을 느끼며 위안을 얻게 하였고, 평면적 인물을 등장시켜 인물의 캐릭터를 부각시켜 무가에 관심 갖는 사람들을 확대하려 한 점, 기존 관습에 이반되는 내용을 통해 작품에 대한 관심을 유도하면서 기존 관념의 잘못을 인식하도록한 점 등이 대중성 확보를 위한 장치였다. 무가의 이러한 특성은 멜로드라마적 특성과 공통되는 부분이 많았다.

This paper was studied about Danggeumagi and Barigongju which are Shaman-ritual epic songs. I compared Danggeumagi and Barigongju with the characteristics of epic melodrama. I focused popular characteristics of two genre. Shaman-ritual epic songs and the melodrama is not even certain mutual influence. But two genre have a lot in many common. The good man receive grand happiness after suffering course and sadness. This meaning allows people who have been sucked into the samurai contents. As a result, people got a consolation to feel complacent. Introducing the two-dimensional figures to highlight the character of the people was expanded with the people interested in the song of the shaman. There is more getting out of the existing practices. Which draw attention to the work through the fault of the existing stereotypes were noted. These were devices to secure both popularity. These characteristics of the Shaman-ritual epic songs are in common with melodrama’s traits.
