본고는 학술텍스트에 나타나는 ‘-겠-’ 결합형 문형의 사용 양상에 관한 것이다. 본 논의의 배경은 크게 다음의 세 가지이다. 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 한 논문쓰기 교육을 위해서는 일반텍스트와는 차별화된 학술텍스트 장르만의 특징이 강조되어야 한다는 점, 일반적으로 손꼽히는 ‘-겠-’의 대표적인 기능(의지, 추측)과 달리 학술텍스트에서의 ‘-겠-’은 헤지 표현으로 빈도 높게 실현된다는 점, 효율적인 논문쓰기 교수·학습을 해 학술텍스트에서 ‘-겠-’을 결합형 문형으로 접근해야 한다는 점이다. 본고에서는 학술논문 100편을 분석 대상으로 삼아 ‘-겠-’ 결합형 문형의 사용 양상을 ‘-다고/라고 하겠다’와 ‘-ㄹ 수 있겠다’를 중심으로 분석하였다. 먼저, 학술텍스트에서 나타나는 ‘-겠-’ 결합형 표현문형의 구문을 정리하고 학술논문의 특정 구성 체제(서론, 결론)에서 실현되는 ‘-겠-’의 특징을 밝혔다. 본고의 결과는 실제 논문 쓰기 교육에서 유용한 문형과 예문 등을 선별하는 데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 텍스트 장르별 접근에서 단계 더 나아가, 학술논문의 구성 체제별로 문형의 기능 차이를 변별해 보고 그것을 교수·학습에 적용하려 한 점에서 의의가 있다

This study is related to the application of the compound sentence pattern ``-gess-(-겠-)`` in acadmic texts. The background for this study is identified by the subsequent three points: first being that in the case of academic essay writing education with international students as the primary audience, instructions must be conducted on the differentiative characteristics unique to academic texts with its central focus on the sentence structure. Secondly, in contrast with the recognized primary functions of ``-gess-(-겠-)``, ``-gess-(-겠-)`` in the academic context is frequently realized as a hedge expression. Lastly, in order to achieve efficient academic essay writing education-in both instructing and learning, ``-gess-(-겠-)`` must be approached as a compound sentence pattern in academic texts. An analysis on 100 academic essays was done with its focus on the application condition of the compound sentence pattern ``-gess-(-겠-)`` in ``-다 고/라고 하겠다`` and ``-ㄹ 수 있겠다``. First and foremost, phrases containing the ``-gess-(-겠-)`` compound expression sentence patterns were organized and arranged. Next, the characteristics of ``-gess-(-겠-)`` actualized in a particular organizational structure (introduction, conclusion) of academic texts were examined. The results of this study may be utilized as fundamental data in the selection process for practical sentence patterns, sample sentences, etc., in real essay writing composition education. Additionally, taking it a step further from the text-genre approach, this study is significant in the fact that it has attempted to distinguish existing sentence function differences in each organizational components constituting an academic text as well as to apply the results to both instruction and learning processes.
