The purpose of this study is to develop a cognitive behavioral therapy program for infertile women``s psychosocial adaptation and to prove its positive effect. For this purpose, a program was developed based on the result of infertile women``s need survey. The program consisted of cognitive restructuring that dealt with negative cognition, relaxation training and problem-solving skills training. Selected participants for this study were infertile women who had never given birth to a child and experienced assisted reproductive technology(ART) at least once. Twenty-four participants waiting for In Vitro Fertilization(IVF), with a score over thirteen in depression (BDI) and fifty in anxiety(SAI), were randomly assigned to a therapy group and control group. The weekly 120-minute-sessions were implemented for ten weeks. Collected data were analyzed through SPSS 18.0 program. The key results of data analysis were as follows: First, on completion of the program, irrational parenthood cognition, automatic negative thoughts, depression and anxiety were significantly reduced for the women in the therapy group. Also, the therapy group showed a significant increase in the overall score of both marital satisfaction and the quality of life with infertility. On the contrary, no significant change was observed in the control group. Second, on completion of the program, the therapy group participants`` thoughts related to infertility changed from the maladaptive thoughts and beliefs to adaptive and alternative ones.
