1920-30년대 대중잡지에 재현된 건강과 질병의 담론들은 식민지적 신체 규율을 넘어선 보다 일상적이고 역동적인 양상을 보여준다. 사회적 대명제로서의 위생 담론은 개인의 일상과 ‘절실한 생활문제’에 밀착하여 세분화 되었고 제도적차원에서 주목되지 않았던 일반적 질환들, ‘개인의 질병’으로 취급되었던 폐결핵이 주요한 치료·관리의 대상으로 들어왔다. 신체에 대한 봉건적 통념이나 단순한 병리학적 관점은 보다 정밀한 과학적 판단과 논리적 기술로 환치되어 갔다. ‘상식’과 ‘과학’으로 언표되는 각종 건강 담론을 학습함으로써 대중들은 ‘병의 예방’을 넘어선, 신체를 관리하고 단련하는 세련된 기술을 익히게 되었다. 그것은 개인에게 신체의 자기 지배권을 강화시키는 능동적 전략으로서의 ‘자기 관리’의이념이었다. 자기 관리의 이념적·문화적 실천들 속에서 20-30년대 대중담화의 건강론은 식민지 의료 시스템의 결핍을 대신한 일종의 담론적 해법으로 존재했다. 그것은 대중담화로서의 건강론이 수행했던 사회적 공공성 혹은 공적 기능이기도 했다. 현재까지 ‘상식’으로 굳어져 유통되는 각종 정보와 지식들이 이 시기 활발히 생산되고 대중적 인식 안에 자리 잡아 갔다는 점에서, 20-30년대는 대중적 건강론의 기원을 이룬다.
This study is focused on health discourses in 1920-30s popular magazine which showed the daily and dynamic aspects exceeding the colonial physical discipline. Hygiene discourses which had been situated as social proposition were subdivided into the personal daily life and ``urgent life problem``. And the general diseases and tuberculosis, which had not been paid attention by institutional aspect, were received attention carefully. The feudal idea and pathologic view on body was replaced with detailed scientific decision and logical description. As more and more the public mastered the various health discourses that based on ``common sense and science, they became proficient at managing and handling the body skillfully. That was more than just ``disease provention``, and was also active strategy for ``self management``. The ideology of ``self management`` strengthen the self control on their body. The 20-30s public health discourses were the kind of solution that subsituted the medical system in colonial period, as well as fulfilled the public function. The 20-30s public health discourses are origin of modern health discourses, in the way that many kinds of general informations and knowledges were produced and settled down into the public recognition.
