This paper addresses the issue of the difference between headlines of online and offline news articles, focusing on two major properties that headlines are supposed to have: informativeness and attractiveness. This research collects 400 news headlines (200 from three major daily newspapers in Korea and 200 from their websites) and examines which type is the more informative. The same headlines are also evaluated by 205 readers on how strong they feel like reading the articles from the headlines. The result is that offline headlines are more informative than online headlines and online headlines are more attractive than offline headlines. Finally, the range of attractiveness is wider in offline headlines than in online headlines. These are all significant differences between offline and online headlines.
