This paper examines inference, i.e., the act of pursuing cohesion and coherence in text by activating implicit information based on knowledge stored in the memories. In particular, this paper aims to discuss the dichotomy between “bridging inferences” and “predictive inferences” based on theoretical and empirical approaches. In the empirical level, this paper introduces the results of experiment that the subject``s predictive inference process was investigated in real time by parameterizing logical links in Korean. The experiment results show that as SMF-Model assumes, when enough context and situation information is provided, predictive inferences can occur prior to propositional level and be included at the final representation of text.
