본고는 현재 교사교육이 교사의 인성발달을 위해 타당한지 분석하고, 인성교육 활성화를 위한 교사교육의 방향을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 분석을 위한 준거는 ‘교육내용의 다양성’, ‘학습자의 마음의 통합성’, 그리고 ‘실천으로서 가르침에 따른 교사 인성의 중요성’이다. 연구목적을 위해 먼저 Ⅱ, Ⅲ장에서 교육내용, 학습자의 마음의 발달 과정, 교사의 가르침의 특성을 인성교육과 관련지어 논의할 것이다. Ⅳ장에서는 교육내용의 다양성과 마음의 통합성 그리고 실천으로서 가르침의 특성에 따른 교사 인성의 중요성이라는 준거에 비추어 볼 때, 현 교사교육이 교사의 인성발달을 위해 적합하게 이루어지고 있는지 분석할 것이다. 또한 교사의 인성교육 강화를 위해 도입된 제도와 신설 교과가 과연 교사의 인성교육 발달을 위해 적합한 것인지 분석 준거에 비추어 논의할 것이다. 분석에 따르면, 교사의 인성 발달을 위한 교사교육은 행위 습관 형성을 위한 실습, 이성 능력 외 마음(가슴)의 발달, 실천적 지식, 그리고 교사의 전문성으로 교사의 사람됨(인성)이 중시되어 교육되어야할 것이다. 교사의 사람됨을 위한 교사의 인성교육은 도구적이고 기능적 접근에서 특정 과목의 신설이 아니라, 교사의 인성이 곧 교사의 전문성임을 인식하고 교사교육이 직업인 훈련의 과정이 아니라 다방면의 균형잡힌 관점을 지닌 사람됨의 인간교육임을 분명히 하는 데서 시작할 수 있을 것이다. 이런 점에서 교사교육은 교사의 사람됨을 목적으로 하는 인문적 교양교육의 차원에서 바라볼 수 있어야 한다.

The purpose of this study is about an analysis of whether the teacher education is proper for teachers character development and of an investigation of desirable teacher education. There are three criteria in the analysis, which are ‘diversity of subject-matter’, ‘mind integrity of learners’ and ‘the importance of teachers character according to the characteristic of teaching as a practice’. To this end, I examined the meaning of character education related to the diversity of subject-matter, mind integrity of learners and the characteristic of teaching in ch.Ⅱ, Ⅲ. I analysed the teacher education on the basis of the criteria in ch. Ⅳ. According to the analysis, teacher education should reinforce the practice for building conduct habit, development of heart(not only mind focusing on reason) and practical knowledge. These could not be done by organizing a new course or program but by forming the culture of education which considers teaching as a practice and education as a building the character of human being. In short, teacher education should be done as an approach of cultivating the humanity of promising teachers.
