교육은 삶에서 나왔으며 따라서 시대적 상황과 매우 밀접한 관계에 있다. 이런 맥락에서 역사적으로 교육제도의 거듭된 개편과 발전은 인간 개개인의 삶의 변화에 큰 영향을 주었으며 이는 사회발전에도 크게 기여하여 민주시민사회로의 도약을 가능하게 하였다. 하지만 근대화 이후 인류 사회의 가장 중요한 유산이라고도 할 수 있는 사회형태로서 민주사회는 현대 사회에서 근본적으로 재도전을 받고 있다고해도 과언이 아니다. 이런 맥락에서 자라나는 세대들의 인성 교육에 관한 교육계의 반성은 변화된 사회적 위기 상황에 대한 마땅한 대응이라고 할 수 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 입장에서 지금과 같은 과잉 교육 시대에 우리사회 학생들이 건강하게 민주적 인성을 함양해 나가기 위해서는 어떤 대안이 필요한지고민해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 과잉 교육의 의미 및 그 배경과 함께 무한경쟁, 고학력 실업 등기존에 제기된 몇 가지 문제점들을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 과잉 교육의 심각한 폐해는 단순히 경제적 비효율성을 넘어 이러한 환경이 민주사회의 근간이 되는 사회구성원들의 다양성 발현에 걸림돌이 될 수있다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 특히 각 개인의 고유하고 다양한 발달의 기본 환경이 되는 일상적인 삶이 과잉 교육으로 말미암아 총체적으로 교육화 되고 있는 것은 매우 심각한 일이다. 그러므로 이러한 문제를 해소하기 위해서는 무엇보다 우리 사회의 가치와 학생들의 일상생활이 근본적으로 변화되어야 하며 이 과정을 통해 삶의 다양성을 회복하고 또 민주적 마음의 습관을 형성할 수 있어야 할 것이다. 이 연구에서는 또한 진화역사적으로 봤을 때 인성을 포함하여 도덕성 발달은 사람들 간의 직접적인 접촉 속에서 비로소 그 잠재력 역량이 발현될 수 있음을 논하였다.
The education will begin in the life of the people. So, it has a very close relationship with the circumstances at that time. Constant evolution of education system has played a crucial role in democracy and civil society contributing to achieving individual development. Unfortunately, however, after modernization, democratic society as a social form is fundamentally tried again in modern society. And it has been noted that the failure of character education led to the current social problems. This study, in this context, is to suggest the alternatives for a viable character education needed for a democratic society in the age of overeducation. Also, it is in agony that our society``s students increase healthy democratic character. First, it was examined some of the problems in the existing, such as the background and significance of the overeducation and unlimited competition, educated unemployment, etc. For this, the meaning, the background and the problems of overeducation such as unlimited competition and educated unemployment has been examined in the study. Trough this, Serious harmful effects of overeducation may be a barrier at community member``s diversity. Especially, day-to-day life of individuals have been educating, because of overeducation. The finding is that overeducation has not only brought about economic inefficiency but also crippled social diversity which is a basis for a democratic society. To solve the problems, this study suggests a changes in the underlying value of our daily life, recovery of social diversity and the habit of democratic mind. It also found that, from the perspective of evolutionary history, the development of character and ethnics could be achieved by direct interactions between individuals in a society.
