화자의 느낌이나 의지를 나타내는 감탄사 범주를 대상으로 동반되는 비언어적 행위를 분석하는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다. 한국어 화자의 비언어 행위를 연구하는 데에 있어 감탄사라는 범주를 선정한 것은 감탄사가 관습화된 발화부터 지극히 개인적인 발화까지를 포함하고 있으며 범주의 특성상 감정이나 의지를 강조하기 위해 비언어 행위를 동반할 가능성이 높기 때문이다. 감탄사에 동반된 비언어 행위의 출현 양상을 보면 감정이나 의지를 표출하는 데에 가장 적극적으로 동반하는 것은 고갯짓이었다. 특히 긍정과 부정의 의사를 전달하는 응답의 감탄사에서 고갯짓이 두드러진다. 반면 담화의 구조와 관련한 기능적 감탄사가 출현할 때에는 주로 얼굴의 변화, 구체적으로는 시선의 회피가 두드러졌다. 발언권을 유지하기 위한 감탄사와 동반한 손짓은 모두 발화의 내용이나 리듬과 무관한 ‘적응하기’에 해당했다.

The purpose of the study is to analyze non-verbal behaviors co-occurring with exclamation which shows a speaker’s intention and emotion. The motivation to select exclamation in this study is that exclamations are involved in range from conventional utterances to personal utterances and that they can frequently occur with non-verbal behaviors to emphasize a speaker’s intention and emotion. Based on my survey on non-verbal behaviors co-occurring with exclamations, head movements were found most frequently. Specifically, exclamations signifying agreements and disagreements are most salient. In the case that functional exclamations regarding discourse structure appear, facial features are salient and in particular gaze aversion. Hand movements with exclamation related to turn-keeping can be grouped as adaptors.
