본 연구는 전문상담교사의 직업 적응 유형을 탐색하여 전문상담교사의 직업 적응 과정을 구체적으로 이해하고 적절한 역할 모델을 제안하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 구체적인 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전문상담교사의 직업 적응 유형은 어떻게 분류될 수 있는가? 둘째, 전문상담교사 각 직업 적응 유형은 어떠한 적응의 과정을 거치는가? 이와 같은 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 전문상담교사로서 잘 적응하였다고 평가되는 학교 근무경력 만 2년 이상의 전문상담교사 15명을 대상으로 개별 면담을 실시하여 각 참여자들의 적응의 모습을 자세히 살펴보고 각 특징을 정리하였다. 이 과정에서 유사한 특징을 지닌 참여자들을 중심으로 적응의 모습을 유형화하고 각유형별 적응의 단계 및 절차를 제시하였다. 자료의 분석 과정에서 사용된 연구방법은 근거이론 접근방법(Strauss & Corbin, 1990, 1998)이었으며 각 단계에서 현직 전문상담교사와 학교상담 및 진로상담 전문가의 타당도 검증 과정을 통해 현상에 대한 사실적 가치를 확보하고자 하였다. 분석의 결과 전문상담교사의 직업 적응 경험 유형은 교직전문성 추구형과 상담전문성 추구형의 두 가지 유형으로 분류되었으며 교직전문성 추구형은 그 적응의 특징에 기반하여 변화주도형, 경험통합형이라는 2가지로 세부 분류되었다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 현직 전문상담교사의 구체적인 적응의 양상을 이해하고 각 개인의 특성에 따른 차별적인 지원 노력을 위한 기초자료가 제공되었다는 의의를 지닌다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the adjustment process patterns of professional school counselors and provide an appropriate basis for the ideal role model to adapt in schools. The detailed research questions of the study are as follows. First, what kind of patterns were classified within the professional school counselor``s adjustment process? Second, how is the process of each work adjustment pattern? To accomplish this purpose, 15 professional incumbent school counselors who have adjusted relatively well and have more than 2 years of experience in schools were individually interviewed. The data analysis was based on grounded theory of Strauss and Corbin’s(1990, 1998). In order to achieve the validity of the result, a validation process was conducted. Through the analysis process, 2 patterns of adjustment process were revealed: “the teaching professionalism pursuing type” and “the counseling professionalism pursuing type”. In addition, the “teaching professionalism pursuing type” was classified as ‘a taking-charge adjustment type’, and ‘a life experience center adjustment type’. Understanding the specific aspects of the adaptation of the professional school counselors could be helpful to conduct in providing support according to each individual``s characteristics.
