『山道』は田村俊子の通常の作品で見ることができる男女の葛藤と、相克に關する極端な描寫は全くせずに、愛による女の內面葛藤を描き出している。俊子は『山道』で佐多稻子に對する申し譯ない思いを表現しながらも、 窪川鶴次郞を通じて鈴木悅との愛を再演しよする期待を持ってみたりもする。しかし、山道を降りてくる途中で出會った夫婦の動いている樣子を見て、幸せだった悅との過去の日日を回想する。同時に、今の男は失った悅との愛を滿たせないことを悟ることになる。山道を降りてくる場面は、自身が今まで生きてきた道程をもう一度천る表現で、俊子自身の一代記を含蓄的な意味で表現した作品と言える。

Yamamichi written by Toshiko Tamura draws the inner conflicts of the woman in love instead of the conflicts between men and women frequently shown in her other novels. Despite Toshiko expressed her regret to Ineko Sata, she had a chance to expect love Etsu Suzuki again supported by Tsurujiro Kubokawa. One day, she met a couple working together on her way from the mountain and reflected the days with Etsu. Spontaneously, she truely understood that current man did not fulfill the love from Etsu. The scene of the mountain road illustrates the way Toshiko had experienced in her life and it can be said that the novel is her biography with connotations.
