『여사서(女四書) 』는 명말청초의 유신(儒臣) 왕상(王相)이 여성의 덕행교육에 대한 4권의 책들을 취합하여 전주(箋注)한 후에 판각한 여성교육용 책이다. 『여사서』 중의 4권 책들은 각각 후한(後漢) 시기 반소(班昭)가 지은 『여계(女誡)』, 당나라 송약소(宋若昭)가 지은 『여론어(女論語)』, 명나라 인효문황후(仁孝文皇后)가 지은 『내훈(內訓)』, 명나라 왕상의 어머니 유씨(劉氏)가 지은 『여범첩록(女范捷錄)』이다. 유가사상의 영향을 깊게 받았던 조선왕조는 여성교육을 어느 때보다 중요시하고 철저히 전개해 나갔다. 또한 중국으로부터 유입한 『여사서『를 무척 중요시하며 1736년과 1907년 두 차례에 걸쳐 언해를 하고 간행되었다. 본고는 『여사서』가 중국과 한국에서 유통되었던 다양한 판본과 한국의 『여사서언행』의 형식과 언해 특징에 대해 중점적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 아울러 연구를 통해서 『여사서』가 중국과 한국에 유행 양상을 살펴보고자 한다. 현존하는 중국의 『여사서』 판본들 중에 서(序)와 발(跋)의 전후 순서를 제외하고는 네 책 편찬순서, 서와 발의 내용, 본문 부분의 내용은 똑같다. 현존하는 한국의 『여사서』 판본들은 언해본과 한문본으로 나눌 수 있는데, 한문본은 중국의 판본이라는 가능성이 더 크고 두가지 언행본은 언해된 한국어로 된 부분을 제외하고는 판본의 형식과 내용은 중국에 현존하는 판본들과 같다. 그리고 두 가지 언행본은 『여사서』중의 원문만을 언해하였는데 왕상의 주석을 더 이상 해석하지 않았다. 『여사서』가 한국에 유입된 후에 모든 백성들에게 잘 받아들이게 하고 잘 전파하기 위해 왕상의 복잡한 주석과 의리(義理)적인 해석을 다 생략하였고 제거하였는데, 이는 당연한 일이라고 본다.
Four Books for Girls 『女四書』are four books on cultivating girl’s virtue, compiled, commented and published by a Confucian scholar and official, Wang Xiang, during Late Ming Dynasty and Early Qing Dynasty. They are Commandments for Girls『女誡』written by Banzhao in Late Han Dynasty, Analects of Confucius for Girls『女論語』 by Song Ruozhao in Tang Dynasty, Instructions for Domestic Sphere『內訓』by Ren Xiaowen Express in Ming Dynasty, Selected Records of Girl Models『女范捷錄』by Wang Xiang’s Mother in Ming Dynasty. Korean Dynasty, which was influenced a lot by Chinese Confucian thought, placed great emphasis on and commented Four Books for Girls in 1736 and 1907. It is also during this time that Korea Dynasty carried out the most radical girls’ education. This article will mainly explore the compilation, publication, and the distribution of Four Books for Girls in China and Korea, as well as the difference between the comments in Korean version and those in original version from China. Among the different visions of existing Four Female Books in China, besides the order of preface and epilogue, the contents, forms of the main texts are completely consistent. The existing Four Female Books in Korea are classified as two types: one with comments, and the other type with Chinese. The Chinese type is from ancient China. The contents of two visions with comments are the same. Additionally, the vision with comments have obvious characteristic. Its comments did not adopt Wang Xiang’s complicated endnotes, but were from the close translation of the original text, simple and clear, being easy to be acceptable and understandable to ordinary people during Koran Dynasty. As a result, it furthered the widespread promulgation of Four Female Books.
