이 연구는 신어사전에 수록된 의생활 어휘를 통해 근대 사회 문화를 분석하는것을 목적으로 한다.세 종류의 신어사전에서 뽑은 의생활 어휘 총 281항목을 대상으로 분석한 결과 원어를 기준으로 외국에서 들여온 외래어가 182종,한자어가 2종으로 나타났고,외래어를 항목 기준으로 살펴보면 영어로부터 기원한 것이 가장 많아 260항목이었고,프랑스어 13항목,포르투갈어 7항목,에스파냐어 3항목,네덜란드어 1항목의 순이었다.의생활과 관련한 근대 사회 문화의 특징은 의복의 공장 대량 생산으로 대표되는 ‘산업화’,양복의 보급을 통해 실현된 ‘획일화’,서양 옷차림을 따라하며 모던함을 경외하는 가운데 사회 전반에 걸쳐 추구했던 ‘서구화’,이런 배경 속에 경제적인 부를 동반하며 새롭게 형성된 계층인‘하이칼라’라 할 수 있다.신어사전에 수록된 의생활 어휘는 ‘고유어,외래어,한자어’의 유의어 쌍을 갖추고 있는 경우가 많았는데 일부는 현재 더 이상 사용하지 않게 되었다.각 어휘의 의미 변화와 소멸 양상을 천착해 밝혀내는 것이 향후과제이다.

This study aims to analyze modern social culture as looking into clothing vocabulary collected in a neologism dictionary. According to the results of the analysis on a total of 281 clothing words gained from three different neologism dictionaries, with the focus laid on original languages, the study confirmed 182 of the words as loanwords borrowed from foreign countries and, two other vocabularies were these words combined with Chinese characters. In terms of the characteristics of the modern social culture related to clothing life, the study came up with ‘industrialization’, an expression that had become most popular due to mass production of clothes in factories, ‘standardization’ which had been realized through distribution of suits, ‘westernization’ that had been pursued by everyone across the whole society who was wearing Western clothes in awe of modernism and ‘high collar’, a financially-secured class that had been newly formed at such times. As for the clothing vocabulary observed in the neologism dictionaries, the study often found these several pairs of synonyms that would consist of ‘native words, loanwords and words combined with Chinese characters’ but, some of the synonyms were no longer being used.
