본 연구는 지역주민들의 안전을 위해 각 자치단체별로 다양한 정책이 시행되고 있음에도 불구하고 범죄는 계속적으로 증대되고 있는 상황 하에, 범죄두려움을 감소시키기 위한 방안으로 사회자본의 영향력을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 서울시 25개 기초자치단체를 대상으로 2010-2012년도의 패널데이터를 구축하여 이를 분석에 사용하였다. 분석결과, 사회자본을 측정한 여러 독립변수 중에 ``일반인에 대한 신뢰``와 ``종교단체 참여``가 범죄두려움을 감소시키는데 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 준 것으로 확인되었으며, 특히 일반인에 대한 신뢰가 가장 큰 영향력을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 통제변수 중에는 경찰인력의 증대가 범죄두려움을 감소시키는데 영향을 준 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과를 토대로 정책적 함의를 제시하였다.

By considering that the increase of crime despite the various crime prevention policy for the safety of local residents is attracting attention, this study attempted to examine empirically the impact of social capital as measures for reducing fear of crime. For this purpose, this study used panel data regression based on 25 local governments in Seoul. This study showed that 'trust in the general population' and 'Participation of religious organizations' were statistically significant variables that affected the decrease of fear of crime. Meanwhile, 'increase in police personnel', one of the control variable, was also statistically significant. This study presents the policy implications on the basis of these results.
