본 연구는 한국 메모리 반도체산업의 역사를 태동기(1965년~1981년), 성장기(1982년~1991년), 성숙기(1992년~1996년), 위기극복기(1997년~2006년), 재도약기(2007년~현재)의 5단계로 구분하여 시기별 특성과 전략을 분석하였다. 1990년도 중반까지 국내기 업들은 글로벌 선진기업에 견줄 만큼 기술력을 발전시켰고, 1997년 아시아외환위기와 2008년 세계금융위기를 거치는 과정에서 높은 수준의 위기대응능력을 갖추게 되었다. 또한 2012년 글로벌 시장의 치킨게임에서 승리한 한국기업들은 미세공정기술에 기반을둔 기술경쟁을 통해 지속가능한 경쟁우위를 확보해나가는 중이다.

This study examines strategies and time-variant characteristics of semiconductor industry in Korea. We categorize the history of industry into five stages : preparation stage (1965~1981), the first growth stage (1982~1991), maturity stage (1992~1996), crisis management stage (1997~2006), and the second growth stage (2007~present). In the mid-1990s, technology of domestic companies caught up with the global standard. Since then, not only have the companies acquired the capability to cope with crisis, having gone through both the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 and the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-2008, but also they have continued securing sustainable competitive advantages over technology through their advancement on fine process technology, especially given their victory in the global chicken game in 2012.
