The purpose of this paper is to explore the properties of Spanish Parasitic Gap Constructions and to provide an appropriate analysis for them. In this paper, we will propose a novel analysis of Parasitic Gap Constructions, based on the multidominant structure proposed by authors including, among others, Wilder(1999, 2008), Citko(2005, 2006, 2011), Gracanin-Yuksek(2007), de Vries(2009), Johnson(2009). We argue that a parasitic gap construction involves multidominant structure in the course of derivation. More specifically, it is assumed that the wh-operator that is base- generated in the adjunct clause merges with the matrix verb, which yields a multidominant structure. One of the consequences obtained from this analysis is that a parasitic gap is not a trace of the null operator, but a trace or copy of the overt wh-operator. Under our multidominance analysis, we attempt to accommodate the anti-c-command effect in parasitic gaps and to account for how the parasitic gaps are licensed in the relative clause without assuming the null operator.
