본 연구는 발달장애인의 성인식과 성태도를 알아보고 이에 따른 성교육 지원방안을 모색해 보는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상자는 고등교육 프로그램에 참여하고 있는 지적장애 2～3급을 지닌 성인 발달장애인 5명으로 하였으며, 연구방법은 질적 연구의 심층면담법으로 실행하였다. 자료분석은 심층면담을 통해 전사된 자료들을 개방코딩법으로 분석하여 장애에 대한 인식과 태도, 성(性)과 인간관계에 대한 인식과 태도, 생리현상에 대한 인식과 태도, 결혼과 가정갖기에 대한 인식과 태도 그리고 성교육 지원요구의 5개 주제를 도출하여, 인간의 경험을 중요시한 현상학적 이해에 따라 해석하였다. 연구결과로, 대부분의 연구참여자는 ‘장애’로 인해 학창시절에 부정적인 경험을 가지고 있었으며, 전체적으로 성(性)에 대한 교육중재가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 성(性)영역에 대한 인식과 태도 또한 그들과 관련된 사람들(가족, 교사, 주위환경)의 인식과 태도에 의해 영향을 받은 것으로 드러났으며, 특히 이것은 연구참여자들이 성인인 된 이후에도 인간관계를 형성하는데 두려움과 어려움으로 작용한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 발달장애인을 위한 성교육은 본인 당사자뿐만 아니라, 그들과 관련된 사람들을 포함하여 발달장애인의 장애와 성(性)이해교육이 동시에 지원되는 것이 필요하다. 그리고 발달장애인을 위한 성교육지원은 성교육내용의 질적 향상과 성교육경험의 기회확대, 성(性)정보와 지식중재, 성폭력예 방교육과 대처방법의 중재지원이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 이에 근거하여 본 연구는 발달장애인 스스로 성(性)에 대해 표현할 수 있는 기회를 제공 함으로써 그들의 성인식과 성태도를 공감하고 이해하는데 의미를 두었다. 또한 발달장애인과 관련하고 있는 부모, 교사, 관련기관 종사자들에게 그들의 성인식과 성태도에 대한 이해를 중재하고 질적인 성교육을 실행하는데 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.
The purpose and focus of this study is exploring people with developmental disabilities and recognize gender and sexual education support measures. The research subjects of the study were in a higher education program for people with developmental disabilities. The 5 individuals participated in a qualitative research study which was conducted using an in-depth interview method. Data analysis was utilized to transfer data from the open coding method through in-depth interviews. From this process it was derived 5 theme; understanding about disabilities, sexuality and relationships, physiology, marriage and family have, sexual education support. It was observed that most of the interview subjects had experienced significant amounts of bullying, violence against them, and other negative incidents due to their disability. Additionally, it was observed that their family, teachers and their environment largely affected their level of awareness and attitude about their own sex. The interviews with the research subjects particularly indicated that people with developmental disabilities often work with fear and have difficulty forming human relationships even after they become adults. Sexual education is crucial for people with developmental disabilities as well as other parties, as it supports while educates those with the disabilities. This study was conducted by providing opportunities for those with disabilities to express themselves to understand sexual and gender recognition as well as the attitudes of people with developmental disabilities.
