본 연구는 어두경음화의 개신지라고 할 수 있는 경남 창녕 지역의 어두경음화 현상을 통시적·공시적 측면에서 고찰하였다. 통시적 측면에서 근대 이전 국어에 어두 단자음을 가졌던 69개 어사를 가지고, 『한국방언자료집』에 나타난 창녕 지역의 실현형과 비교를 통해 그 실현율을 조사하였다. 그 결과 창녕 지역의 경우 어두경음화의 개신지에 위치한 여타 다른 지역에 비해 어두경음화가 가장먼저 발달하였음을 확인하였다. 공시적 측면에서 창녕 지역의 어두경음화 현상을 세대별, 어휘별, 성별, 말투별 등의 요인에 따라 살펴보았다. 세대별의 경우 연령이 높을수록 어두경음화 실현율이 높았으며, 어휘의 경우 체언보다는 용언에서, 어두 자음은 ‘ㅅ>ㅈ>ㄱ>ㅂ>ㄷ’ 순으로 높게 나타났다. 성별에 따른 차이는 없었으며, 격식적인 말투보다는 일상적인 말투에서 높은 실현율을 보였다. 여기서 주목해야 할 점은 창녕 지역 10~20대의 어두경음화 현상이다. 정영주 (1987)은 1980년대 창녕 지역의 어두경음화를 주도한 세대가 노년층임을 밝힌바 있다. 그 당시 젊은층들이 30년의 세월이 흘러 현재 50~60대가 되면서 창녕 지역의 어두 경음화를 주도하고 있는바, 세월이 흐를수록 10~20대 젊은층의 어두경음화 실현율이 높아질 것으로 추정된다. 이러한 결과는 앞으로 창녕 지역의 어두경음화는 10~20대를 중심으로 활발한 언어 변이를 겪을 것으로 추정된다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate that Word-initial tensification according to around at Gyeongnam Changyeong. The research result can be summarized as follows: first, what phonological rules had existed by looking into the historical changes of initial consonant clusters/initial lenis consonant. Initial consonant clusters than initial lenis consonant had been applied to the historical changes of Changyeong. Second, Word-initial tensification according to age groups, vocabulary groups, gender groups, speech styles at Changyeong. Word-initial tensification has high tendency to be more used by the older age, casual speech style, predicate at Changyeong. Importantly, the younger age woman is higher than male, which means that innovator of Word-initial tensification at Changyeong is younger age women. This study is significant in the sense that it is specialized in parts of speech in comparison with previous researches which have suggested the lists of Word-initial tensification at Changyeong.
