동성애에 대한 자료는 양은 그리 많지 않지만 ‘조선왕조실록’, ‘문집자료’, ‘총서류’, ‘야사류’, ‘야담류’ 등 비교적 다양한 종류의 기록에 등장한다. 이러한 자료들을 바탕으로 전통시대 동성애에 대한 용어를 검토해 보면, 남녀 동성애의 가장보편적인 용어는 ‘對食’이며, 남성간 동성애는 ‘男寵’, ‘男色’ 및 ‘風男之戱’ 등이다. ‘北衝’, ‘男奸’, ‘비역질’, ‘鷄姦’인 경우 남성끼리 하는 성행위의 의미가 강하며, 이 중에 ‘鷄姦’는 주로 남성끼리 이루어지는 强姦이라는 성범죄의 용어로 정착한 것이다. 세종의 며느리였던 세자빈 봉씨와 궁녀 소쌍을 둘러싼 동성애 이야기와 제안 대군 이현의 유모 今音勿이 일으킨 동성애 스캔들 사건 등이 가장 대표적인 동 성애 관련 역사적 사건들이다. 특히 이규보의 <次韻空空上人 贈朴少年五十韻>, <李聖先傳>, 그리고 야담의 형식으로 문학적 형상화가 이루어지기도 하였다. 이러한 동성애 관련 자료를 검토해 보면 남성 중심의 문학적 형상화와 남성중심주의가 강하게 투영되어 있으며, 다양한 계층과 계급에서 우리가 생각했던 것 이상의 동성애가 이루어지고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 사실은 조선의 性風俗을 연구할 때 동성애 분야가 매우 중요한 연구대상임을 보여준다.

There are not many historical materials on homosexuality, but its records are found in relatively diverse types of them including “Annals of the Joseon Dynasty”, “anthologies”, “series”, “unofficial history”, and “historical romance”. This study reviewed terms of homosexuality in the traditional eras based on those materials and found the most universal term to refer to male and female homosexuality was “Daeshik”. Male homosexuality was also termed “Namchong”, “Namsaek” and “Pungnamjihee”. “Bukchung”, “Namgan”, “Biyeokjil”, and “Gyegan” strongly highlighted the meaning of sexual intercourse between men. Of them, “Gyegan” settled down as a term of sex crime to refer to rape between men. Some of the most representative historical events in relation to homosexuality are the homosexuality story between Crown Princess Bong, who was a daughter-in-law of King Sejong, and a maid of honor called Sossang and the homosexuality scandal of Geumeummul, who was the nanny of Jeandaegun Lee Hyeon. They were especially embodied in literary forms including Chawoongonggongsangin Jeungbaksonyeonsoshipwoon and Yiseongseonjeon by Lee Gyu-bo and historical romance. The review results of those materials on homosexuality show that man-centered literary embodiment and androcentrism were strongly projected into them and that homosexuality was more prevalent than we thought across various classes and ranks. Those findings indicate that the area of homosexuality is a very important subject in the research of sex custom in Joseon.
