이 논문은 전라북도 지역의 문예잡지에 관한 통시적 연구 성과이다. 근대문학은 근대 매체, 특히 잡지의 발간에 많은 영향을 입고 발달하여 왔다. 연구자가이 논문에서 집중적으로 드러내려고 노력한 부분도 잡지의 발간과 편집에 참여한 작가들의 호명이었다. 그들의 헌신적인 수고 덕분에 도내에서도 근대 잡지가 발간될 수 있었다. 애국계몽기부터 해방 전까지 발간된 전라북도 지역의 문예지는 네 종류로 범주화할 수 있었다. 먼저 계몽기를 대표하는 각 학회의 학회지가 한국근대잡지사의 효두를 장식하였다. 두 번째는 한국근대문학의 기틀을 마련한 재동경조선인 유학생학우회의 기관지 『학지광』과 도내 각지의 유학생들이 펴낸 학우회지이다. 세 번째는 주로 사회주의 운동가와 청년단체에서 발간한 사상지를 들 수 있다. 네 번째는 소박하나마 문학을 표방한 문예지가 있다. 이와 같은 도내 잡지의 발간 단계를 주의깊게 살펴보노라면, 근대문학의 형성과정에 대응하는 줄 알게 된다. 그것은 ‘문학’의 외연이 전문화된다는 명분으로 점차 축소되고, 필자들의 폭이 좁혀지는 과정에 상응한다. 곧, 근대 잡지들은 학의 범주를 획정하려는 담론들이 충돌하고 갈등하는 공개적인 공간이었고, 필자들이 각자 전문 분야별로 분리되고 작가가 탄생하는 계기를 제공하였다.

This thesis is a result of diachronic research on literary magazines in Jeollabuk-do. Modern literature has been developed with the great influence of modern media, especially the publication of magazines. What this researcher strived to reveal intensively here in this study regards the publication of magazines and the names of writers who participated in editing. Thanks to their dedicative efforts, it was possible to publish modern magazines in the provincial areas, too. The literary magazines of Jeollabuk-do published from the Patriotic Enlightenment Period up to the Emancipation can be categorized into four kinds. The first ones are many different societies’ journals representing the Enlightenment Period decorated the beginning of Korean modern magazine history. The second ones include 『Hakjigwang『, the organ of the in-Tokyo Chosun students’ union which laid the foundation of Korean modern literature, and the union organs published by all different students residing in the province. The third ones are the ideological magazines published mainly by socialist activists or youth groups. Lastly, the fourth ones are the literary magazines claiming to support literature though it was rather plain. Examining carefully the steps of publishing those provincial magazines, you will find it corresponds to the process of establishing modern literature. It, in fact, corresponds to the process that it got gradually reduced with the justification that the extension of ‘literature’ was becoming more specialized and the span of authors grew narrower. In other words, modern magazines were open space where discourses intended to fix the range of literature collided and conflicted and provided opportunities to separate authors by their specialized areas and generate more writers.
