Se-Wol ferry disaster gave much shocks on Korean society and was reviewed in various areas. This paper is aimed at looking into the weakness and the disgrace of Korean Society and reflecting our faults not only not forgetting but remembering the victims of the disaster. So I am going to review the opinions of high school students who are the same age as many victims of Se-Wol ferry disaster and to give insights on ethics education at school. I could recognize students’ distrust toward Korean Society and adult generation through their presentation and discussion on Se-Wol ferry disaster. The fundamental cause and government’s mishandling of the disaster made students have distrust toward government system. Besides, the report of the disaster which was carried through major mass media in Korean society also made the students have the very similar distrust. So students realized that Korean school system had not been able to help them come true their dreams and potentials. For the entrance to upper school, the relations of teachers and students were distorted and severe discipline and punishment had been prevailed. As a result, students’ ability for empathy had been weakened so much. To make matters worse, ethics education at school had been changed to accumulating ethical knowledges not applying them into practice. After all, Se-Wol ferry disaster disclosed fundamental problems and weaknesses of Korean Society. Here we should acknowledge our problems and weaknesses frankly not to repeat this kind of miserable disaster. In addition, ethics education in Korea has to foster many moral people who are able to consider human’s inner darkness.
