알코올중독에서 회복하여 장기간 단주를 경험하고 있는 사람들의 회복과정을 탐색하였다. 그리고 단주과정중 발생되는 다양한 요인이나 총체적인 작용을 파악하였다. 연구결과 참여자들이 경험한 ‘맑은 정신으로 살아가기’는 어떠한 어려움과 고통이 밀려와도 ‘참고 견뎌내면서’ 살아가는 것으로 나타났다. 과거의 고통스러운 경험과 현재 단주하고 있는 것을 모르는 사람들의 음주 권유를 적절하게 대응하면서 단주의 기본이 되는 디딤돌을 하나하나 만들어 가고 있었다. 또한 진정성 있는 고민을 통하여 하루하루를 살아가고 있음을 알 수있었다. 따라서 이 연구에서 알코올중독자의 장기간 단주 경험과정이란 ‘맑은 정신으로 살아가기’ 위해서는 하루하루 ‘참고 견뎌냄’을 의미하는 것이다. 이와 같이 추출된 결과를 또다시 지속적으로 반복, 비교 분석함 으로써 4단계의 경험과정을 밝혀냈다. 그 과정은 ‘혼돈과정’, ‘안정과정’, ‘성숙과정’, ‘평온함 과정’이다. 이러한 경험들이 순차적으로 오기도 하지만 순환적으로 나타나기도 하였다. 그리고 ‘참고 견뎌냄’의 경험은 작용/상호작용 전략의 개입으로 ‘맑은 정신으로 살아가기’에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 이러한 결과를 중심으로 상담적 시사점을 제시하였다.

The recovery processes of those who are experiencing long-term sobriety from alcoholism have been carefully studied for understanding various factors and general actions during the processes. In conclusion, the study showed that the ‘Living Sober’ by the participants means ‘Endurance’ in spite of much hardship and pain. They were making a progress taking small steps to sobriety resisting to the drinking request from those who have no idea how hard the past was for the participants and the fact that the participants stopped drinking. Their daily lives were still with endless agony. As a result, it has been found that the long-term sobriety process is a series of daily ‘Endurance’ in order to maintain ‘Living Sober’ to former alcoholics. After applying repetitive and comparative analysis on the extracted results, the four steps of experience process have been identified; ‘Chaotic’, ‘Stable’, ‘Mature’, and ‘Serene’. These steps may come in order, but sometimes with cyclically. In addition, it has been found that ‘Endurance’ made a positive impact on ‘Living Sober’ as a result of action/interaction strategy. On the basis of these results, counseling implications were discussed.
