이 논문에서는 가사문학을 올바르게 이해하기 위해 어떤 기반지식이 필요하며, 가사문학을 통해 문학사를 어떻게 이해할 것인가를 논의하였다. 가사문학은 고전문학의 일부라는 점에서 가사문학의 교육 목적은 고전문학의 교육 목적과 다를 수 없다. 현대문학과 고전문학은 문학이라는 공통점으로 인해 교육 목적이 크게 다르지 않다. 그러나 고전문학은 근대 이전에 창작된, 즉 시간적으로 먼 과거에 창작된 타자의 문학이라는 점에서 현대문학과 다르다. 때문에 같은 교육 목표라고 하더라도 고전문학을 통해 더 효과적으로 달성할수 있는 교육 목표가 있다. 필자는 그것이 타자에 대한 이해와 소통, 문학사의 이해 등에 있다고 생각한다. 가사문학은 대부분 중세라는 시기에 유학을 신봉하던 사대부들에 의해 창작되었다. 중세는 단 하나의 이념(종교적 차원)만이 허용되던 시기라는 점에서 다양한 가치가 허용되는 근대와 구별된다. 중세의 보편적 특성에 대한 이해는 시간적 거리가 있는 과거뿐만 아니라 공간적 거리가 있는 다른 나라의 문학과 문화를 이해하는 데도 필요한 시각이다. 사대부는 유교를 신봉했던 중세인이었다. 따라서 이들이 창작한 가사작품들을 이해하기 위해서는 유가에서 요구하는 사대부의 가치관과 그들에게 요구되었던 바람직한 삶의 태도를 이해할 필요가 있다. 사대부에 대한 이해는 가사문학의 흐름(나아가 조선시대 문학사)를 이해하는 데도 반드시 필요한 기반지식이라 할 수 있다.

The aim of this paper is to examine the based knowledges necessary for classical literature education and how to teach the history of literature with Kasa. Kasa is the part of classical literature, so the educational aim of Kasa and the classical literature is not different. And the educational aim of the contemporary literature and the classical literature is almost same. But the classical literature is the literature of the Other in the temporal distance. Because there is more effective educational goals that can be achieved through the classical literature. Those are understanding the Others and the history of literature. Most of the Kasa were created by Confucian scholars in the Middle Ages(Josun dynasty). Because in order to understand Kasa it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the Middle Ages and Confucian scholars. And the understanding the common characteristics of the Medieval Ages is necessary to understand the literature and culture of other countries, as well as the past. Confucian scholars of Josun dynasty were medieval people. Because in order to understand Kasa it is necessary to understand their values and desirable attitudes of life. It is essential to understand the history of classical literature. The medieval ages was dominated by only single ideology. So a lot of codes those are not used today are used. In addition, although using the same words today the cultural implications are often different from today. In particular, in Kasa a lot of codes were used in a work than other lyrics. Because understanding the code is essential bases knowledge for under- standing Kasa.
