이 연구는 강릉시 주문진 소돌마을의 마을기원 양상과 그 의미에 대해서 고찰했다. 어촌에 위치한 소돌마을에는 다양한 제의가 행해지고 있으며, 마을을 가꾸고자 하는 실천행위가 가시적으로 이뤄지는 마을이다. 이에 마을자원을 조사해 본 결과 크게 두 가지 형태의 기원양상을 볼 수 있었다. 첫째는 마을에 신들이 항상 강림해 있는 축복의 땅을 만들어서 신의 도움을 받아 안녕과 풍요를 기원하는 것이었다. 이는 마을공동기원과 개인기원이라는 두 가지 형태로 나타났다. 마을공동기원의 제의는 해당화서낭제, 풍어제, 별신굿, 용왕제 등으로 나타났다. 개인기원의 제의는 서낭치성, 안택고사, 뱃고사, 산멕이제, 영등제 등으로 나타났다. 소돌마을은 제의를 통해서 언제나 신과 함께하여 안녕과 풍요가 있는 축복의 땅을 만들고자 기원하였다. 둘째는 마을을 이상향으로 가꾸는 양상으로 나타났다. 이에는 풍수적인 인식으로 자신이 사는 마을을 최고의 이상향으로 가꾸는 것과 관광자원으로 가꾸는 두 가지 형태로 나타났다. 마을을 풍수적인 입장에서 소 모양으로 인식하고 소 상징의 생생력을 도입해서 이상향으로 가꾸고자 하였다. 관광자원으로 가꾸고자 한 것은 아들바위라는 기원의 의미를 도입해서 잘 사는 마을을 만들고자 한 것이다.

This study studied about the aspect and the meaning of village wishing in sodol, gangneung. Sodol as a fishing village has many rites. It can be visible to cultivate the town. On this, there are two ways of wishing in the town. First, it is to make the town as a blessed place which gods are with them all the time. So with the help of gods, they can wish peace and abundance. The wishing rites are in two ways of village community and personal. There are ``Hae-dang-hwa- sea-nang-je``, ``Phung-eo-je``, ``Beal-sin-gud``, ``Young-wang-je`` as rites of community. Also ``Seo-nang-chi-seong``, ``An-taek-go-sa``, ``Bed-go-sa``, San-maek-i-je``, ``Yeong-deung-je`` are for personal. Sodol town has always wished to make a blessed place with peace and abundance. Secondly, it showed to cultivate the town to the utopia. They want to make the village the best utopia according to the feng shui and also tourist attraction. They have been considered their town’s shape as a cow based on feng shui and cultivated into the utopia introducing the image of cow’s vitality. And also with the adoption of son’s rock as a tourist attrction, it shows the desire of building an abundant town.
