본고는 ‘마이너스대우표현의 플러스대우화’의 발화기능을 중심으로 그 사용양상을 분석·고찰하였다. 본고에 있어서의 ‘마이너스대우표현의 플러스대우화’란 표 현주체가 이해주체에게 어떤 발화를 할 때, ‘마이너스대우표현’을 사용하여 그 반 인 플러스대우를 하는 간접발화행위로, 시나리오를 자료로 분석한 결과, 표현주체의 표현의도에 따라서 표현내용과 표현형식의 차이가 일어나는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 그 간접발화의 행위기능으로서는 ‘친밀’ ‘걱정’ ‘칭찬’ ‘감사’의 4가지를 볼 수 있었다. 이러한 발화행위는 ‘상대레벨’이 -1인 경우에 주로 행해졌고, ‘장소레벨‘은 특별히 영향을 끼친다고 볼 수는 없었다. 친밀도가 높은 관계에서 주로 사용 된 표현으로는 전체적으로 사람에 관계된 것 중 특히 연령이나 성별에 관한 것이나 사람의 성질과 심정 또는 행위에서 온 것이 가장많이 보였다. 표현주체가 이러한 ’마이너스대우표현‘을 사용하는 요인으로서는,1)표현주체와 이해주체는 긴밀한 관계이므로 이러한 표현법을 사용해도 괜찮다고 암묵리에 인정하고 있기 때문에, 2) 이러한 언어행위를 하는 것으로 인해 표현주체와 이해주제의 관계가 더욱 돈독해 져 더욱 더 친밀한 사이가 되기때문에, 3)이러한 언어행위를 하는 것으로 인해 의 도를 강하게 전달하여 발화효과를 높일 수 있기 때문에, 마지막으로 4)표현주체와 이해주체는 긴밀한 관계이나 부끄러워서 자신의 마음을 솔직하게 나타낼 수 없기 때문이라고 생각되어진다. 이처럼 ‘마이너스대우표현의 플러스대우화’는 1) 2) 3)의 요인처럼 표현의도를 강조하기 위해 사용되는 경우가 많다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

The present study examined and analyzed the usage of ‘positivizing of the expression of negative treatment’, focusing mainly on its articulation functions. In this study, ‘positivizing of the expression of negative treatment’ means indirect action articulation to express positive treatment using ‘expression of negative treatment’ when a speaker (subject of expression) articulates something to a listener (subject of understanding). The analysis on dialogue scenarios demonstrated that a speaker’s intent of expression has impact on the contents and forms of expression. The functions of indirectaction articul ationincluded ‘intimacy’ ‘anxiety’‘complement’ and‘gratitude’. It was observed that such articulating behaviors were usually expressed when ‘relative level’ was -1 and were not much affected by ‘place level’. (The expressions made in the relationship of high intimacy were ones related to a person as a whole, especially to age or sex, or personality or emotions). The reasons why the subject of expression (a speaker) use such ‘expression of negative treatment’ were 1) that the close relatIon ship between the subject of expression and the subject of understanding implicitly concedes the use of these expressions, 2) that such linguistic behaviors more solidifies the relationship between the subject of express ion and the subject of understanding, 3) that those linguistic behaviors conveys one’s intent of expression clearly and strongly so the articulation can be highly effective, and 4) that it is hard to reveal one’s candid emotion though both the subject of expression and the subject of understanding are in close relationship. Like the factor 1), 2) and 3), it was found that ‘positivizing of the expression of negative treatment’ was often used to stress the intent of expression.
