본 연구는 제주신화를 소재로 하는 웹툰 『신과 함께』 <신화편>을 대상으로 하여, 이 작품에 수용된 제주신화의 변형 양상과, 현대적 요소를 살펴보았다. <신화편>의 이야기들은 주어진 과제를 해결하거나 장애를 극복하고 신으로 좌정하는 신화의 내력담 구조를 그대로 차용하고 있지만 인물의 성격과 사건 전개의 변화를 통해 논리적인 비약을 보완하여 개연성을 확보하고 있다. 또한 각 이야기마다 오늘날 사람들이 공감할 수 있는 현대적 가치들을 반영하고 있다. 먼저 원형 신화에는 나타나지 않았던 배경 이야기를 제시하거나, 등장 인물에게 새로운 설정을 부여하여 성격을 강화하고, 기존에 없던 새로운 인물을 등장시키기도 한다. 이를 통해 인물의 행동에 타당성을 갖추도록 하고 있었다. 그리고 사건 전개의 변형을 통해 신화에 대한 작가의 새로운 시각을 보여주고 있다. 작가는 원형 신화의 서사를 단순히 재현하여 전달하는데 그치는 것이 아니라 오늘날의 사람들이 추구해야 하는 현대적 요소를 반영하여 공감을 얻고 있었다. 다음으로는 동일한 인물을 다른 이야기에 등장시키는 방법을 통해 각 편의 서사를 연결하는 장치를 마련하고 있었다. 이러한 장치들은 <신화편>의 여러 이야기의 세계를 통합적으로 인식하게 한다. 이와 같이 웹툰 『신과 함께』의 <신화편>은 제주신화의 원형성을 유지하면서도 적절한 변형과 각색을 통해 신화를 재해석하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

This study examined aspects of acceptance and reinterpretation of the times of Jeju myth in of webtoon With God which is evaluated as the most successful culture contents that have Jeju myth motif. In it adopts a narrative structure of Jeju myth that the god is sit by solving problems, but it shows various efforts to overcome a contingency of archetype mythology. To begin with, it shows background stories which are not in archetype mythology, reinforces characteristic with giving new settings to characters, or presents new characters. This gives validity on characters’ behaviors. Also, through a transformation of events development, it shows new point of view about myths. A writer reinterprets and passes on the narrative of archetype mythology, besides gains the sympathy by reinterpreting universal values that people should seek. Next, there is a system that connects each piece’s narratives through presenting same character indifferent stories. This system makes people consider worlds in many stories in an integrated world. Thus, in webtoon With God keeps archetype of Jeju myth and reinterprets the myth with transformation and dramatization.
