이 논문의 목적은 장소각 소장 고전소설인 『태원지』의 국어학적 연구를 통하여 필사시기를 추정하고 국어사 자료로서의 가치를 밝히는 데 있다. 『태원지』는 어휘, 형태소 결합 양상, 어중 유기음의 표기 방식 등을 통하여 『태원지』는 18세기말 이후에 필사되었을 것으로 추정되며 필사의 상한선은 일러도 1777년 이후로 잡을 수 있다. 『태원지』는 음운의 측면에서 원순모음화와 구개음화는 매우 보수적으로 반영되어 있지만, 표기법의 측면에서 근대국어 후기 국어 표기법의 전형적인특징과 일치하고, 문법적 측면에서 다양한 문법적 형태의 양상을 통하여 근대국어후기의 문법적 특징을 확인할 수 있다. 『태원지』는 다른 자료에 나타나지 않는 특정 어휘의 활용이 나타나 국어사 연구에서 고전소설이 국어사 자료의 공백을 훌륭히 메워줄 수 있음을 보여 주는 자료이다. 또한 『태원지』는 이전 시대까지 보이지 않던 어휘들이 발견되어, 국어 어휘를 풍부하게 하여 주는 자료이며, 부사들의 다양한 의미의 용법을 확인할 수 있어, 어휘사 연구에도 좋은 자료가 될 수 있다.

This study intended to estimate the transcription eras through the Korean linguistic study of the traditional novel,『Taewonji』, and estimate its value as the reference for the history of Korean language. It is estimated that 『Taewonji』 was transcribed after the end of the 18th century based on how vocabularies and morphemes are combined, how word-medial aspirations were written, and so on, and the oldest period of transcription can be estimated around 1777 at the earliest. In terms of phonemes, 『Taewonji』 reflects vowel rounding and palatalization quite conservatively, however in terms of orthography, it matches the typical characteristics of the orthography of late modern Korean, and in terms of grammar, it shows the grammatical characteristics of the late modern Korean through various grammatical forms. Also, for 『Taewonji』shows the usage of specific vocabularies that do not appear in other references, it can sufficiently fill in the gap in the references for the history of Korean language in the study of the history of Korean language. 『Taewonji』 also includes the vocabularies that had not appeared in preceding eras to enrich Korean vocabulary and it also shows various uses of adverbs, providing great resources for the history of vocabulary.
