전후 현실은 전쟁의 잠정적 종식에도 불구하고 여전히 ``다시`` 논의되어야 할 문제로 남아 있다. 본 연구는 국가담론과 문학의 구성이라는 측면에서 전후 시조문학의 현실인식 양상을 고찰하는 데 목적을 둔다. 특히 이호우와 이영도의 시조작품을 분석함으로써 전후를 사유하는 시조의 정신을 엿볼 수 있을 것이다. 물론 이들 시조의 특성을 전체 시조로 환원할 수는 없지만, 현대시조에 대한 오해와 편견을 불식시키는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이라 기대 한다. 먼저 이호우의 경우, 전통적 서정의 감각을 형상화하는 작품을 통해서 시인의 자의식을 탐색할 수 있다. 또한 강한 저항의 언어로 표출되는 비판의식의 시편을 통해서 전후 상황을 조망하고 부조리를 타개하려는 지사적인 면모를 탐지할 수 있다. 다음으로 이영도의 작품은 가족담론을 체화한 그리움의 정서를 표출한다. 이상적 가족을 그리워하는 행위는 국가를 재건하려는 열망으로 이어진다. 또 전후적 현실감각과 역사의식이 형상화된 시편을 통해서 강한 비판적 어조를 드러내기도 한다. 이들 시조의 문학사적 의의는 시적 자율성과 시의 사회적 책무를 두루 갖추었다는 데 있다. 그렇기에 이들의 작품을 고찰한 본 논의를 통해서 전후 현대시조의 역할과 그 가능성을 가늠할 수 있을 것이다.
