This article aims at researching the storytelling strategy on Iwai Shunji’s film, . The might seem to be developed from the high concept, ‘if one writes to dead lover’. But it shows such a multi-layered aspect, when analyzed the narrative. It develops the motif of two persons with the same name, and another motif of look-alike person in the past and present layers side by side. And the efforts to escape from the memory and the trial to find the memory permeate each other mutually, as it embodies the healing process with centrifugal and centripetal force based on the loss and sharing. The ironic premise, that one writes to the dead, lets the one recall the memory on the other one and make statement on oneself. It seems to be self-contradictory aspect. The film embodies longing for the first love recognized too late and uneasiness effectively at the same time, as seen as unstable camera’s walk, developing the past and present in juxtaposition, and a character in a double role based on the Iwai Shunji’s own lyricism.
