This paper aims to seek the direction of the sociolect and technical terms in the Korean language education. The technical terms are defined as ‘the terms that are used in this area of expertise.’. Technical terms education appeared in the 7th Middle school Curriculum. In this curriculum, technical terms were treated with a sociolect. Sociolect is a variety of social language which were comprised of social factors, for example social class, gender, religion and occupations. In this respect, technical terms were treated to gather with informal terms. But the 7th Highschool Curriculum explained that technical terms were different than other sociolects. The high school grammar textbook wrote that technical terms used special words in area of expertise. This trend appeared in the 2007 Curriculum. The technical terms education treated at high school level were occupational words. The 2009 Curriculum reflected this in high school Korean 1. Many textbooks treated technical terms as a kind of sociolect. These texts explained the concept of technical terms, characters of technical terms and usage of these terms. But these educational contents were not sufficient compared with the previous Curriculums. This trend continues in the new Curriculum which was announced in 2015. I think that the curriculum developers must notice that technical terms have two aspects. One is a sociolect, the other is terminology. The technical terms education contents should contain these two aspects.
