본 연구에서는 보편적으로 사람들에게 감동을 주고 변화를 촉진하는 스토리텔링의 요소를 활용하여 상담사례를 보다 체계적이고 다각적으로 이해할 수 있는 방법을 모색하였다. 스토리텔링에 대한 선행연구를 개관하여 스토리텔링의 공통요소인 ‘스토리 구조’와 ‘인물 원형’을 선정하였으며, 이를 상담사례의 분석에 단계적으로 활용하는 절차를 개발하고 이를 실제 상담사례에 적용하여 사례분석을 실행하였다. 3인의 상담실무자들이 참여한 사례분석 결과, ‘스토리 구조’를 통해서는 내담자의 결정적 핵심 사건을 포착하고 그 심층적 의미를 파악하기에 용이하였고, ‘인물 원형’ 요소는 내담자와 주요 인물간의 복합적인 관계의 의미와 기능, 그리고 그 변화양상을 이해하는 데에 도움이 되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 스토리텔링의 효과를 상담에 접목하고자 하였던 이제까지의 여러 시도들을 구체화하여 실제 상담사례의 이해를 돕는 방법을 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 상담사례를 보다 다각적으로 분석하여 이해할 수 있는 방식을 시도했다는 점에서 의미를 갖는다. 연구의 제한 점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

This study aimed to examine the usefulness of storytelling that has deeply touched people and promoted to change in counseling and to suggest a systematic methodology of case analysis of counseling. For the purpose, the Hero’s Journey and the Character Archetypes were selected as the common factors of storytelling after the overview of the preceding research. Additionally, a procedure of applying the common factors in case analysis was developed, and then the method was applied to real counseling case. Three counselors participated in this case analysis. As the result, it was easy to grasp the implicit meaning of the client’s deep dynamic psychology through the Hero’s Journey analysis of the client’s story and counselors could figure out the meaning of the client’s complicated interpersonal relations in flexible character functions using the character archetypes and this helped understand the aspects of the client’s change. This study has the meaning that we can suggest more specific and systematic methodology applying the rich potentials of storytelling to real counseling and this approach can help to promote an integrated understanding of the client’s case from various angles. Finally, the limitations of this study and recommendations for further study were discussed.
