이 연구는 필자의 인지 과정을 분석하기 위한 작문(교육) 연구 방법으로 자판 입력 및 시선 추적 자료 그리고 회상적 사고구술의 통합적인 활용 방안을 제안하였다. ‘글을 쓰는 과정에서 필자는 과연 어떤 생각을 하는가?’라는 물음은 작문(교육) 연구자들의 오랜 관심사였다. 그런데 필자의인지 과정을 직접적으로 들여다볼 수 없는 특성상 비록 덜 직접적이기는 하지만, 다양한 방법을 통해 이를 밝히기 위한 시도가 이루어졌다. 그 중에서 자판 입력 자료와 시선 추적 자료는 필자의 인지 과정을 분석하기 위한 유용한 자료가 된다. ‘눈은 마음의 창이’라는 비유에서 알수 있듯이 필자의 시선은 다양한 정보를 담고 있기 때문이다. 그리고 키보드를 사용하는 것은 손글씨 쓰기의 연필 사용 기록에 해당하므로, 이입력 자료를 분석하는 것은 곧 쓰기 과정의 분석이라고 할 수 있다. 이처럼 최근에는 과학적인 접근 방법을 활용하여 필자의 인지 과정을 객관적으로 밝히고자 하는데 연구자들의 관심이 모아지고 있다. 하지만 이러한 필요성에 대한 목소리에 비하여, 국내의 작문(교육) 연구에서 이를 실제로 활용한 예는 쉽게 찾아볼 수 없었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 필자의인지 과정을 분석하기 위해 이를 통합적으로 활용하기 위한 연구 방법 (예：Scriplog & TimeLine, Inputlog & Eyelink, Eye tracer)을 소개하고, 실제 이를 활용한 분석 사례를 제시하였다.
In this study, we proposed the measures for integrated utilization of data related to keystroke logging, eye-tracking, and retrospective thinkaloud in connection with methodology of writing(education) research that aims to analyze writer’s cognitive process. One of long-standing questions of ‘writing(education) researchers’ has been what writers are thinking about when they write. In relation to that, attempts have been made to look into the thoughts of writers through various methods, albeit somewhat indirect due to the fact that writer’s cognitive process cannot be fathomed directly. Among others, both keystroke logging data and eye-tracking data can be useful for analysis of writer’s cognitive process. As the proverb says that eyes are window to mind, writer’s eyes contain various information. As keystroke logging corresponds to handwriting records, analysis of keystroke can provide data for writer’s writing processes. There has been recently a heightened interest among researchers in examining writer’s cognitive process objectively by taking scientific approach. However, despite increased recognition of those needs, such approach has rarely been taken to domestic writing(education) research. In response to that, this study proposed the method for integrated utilization of aforesaid data related to keystroke logging, eye-tracking, and retrospective think-aloud to analyze writer’s cognitive process and presented practical cases that had been analyzed(ex：Scriplog & TimeLine, Inputlog & Eyelink, Eye tracer)
