Objectives: This study was conducted to explore awareness levels of myocardial infarction warning symptoms and related factors among residents in a province and we tried to present the evidence for education and promotion strategies. Methods: Study subjects were 594 adults live in a province. We surveyed demographic factors and awareness levels of myocardial infarction symptoms through telephone interview in 2013. The data were analyzed by using SAS 9.4. Results: In the survey, most frequently recognized warning symptoms were ``sudden chest pain and chest discomfort`` (75.1%), and ``sudden dyspnea`` (64.0%). However, ``sudden weakness and dizziness`` (45.1%), ``sudden pain in the jaw, neck or back`` (32.2%) and ``sudden discomfort in the upper limb or shoulder`` (31.3%) were less recognized. In a multiple regression analysis, male, no disease morbidity, no acquaintance history of myocardial infarction, low educational level, no exposure to promotional literature were significantly related to low awareness level of myocardial infarction warning symptoms. Conclusions: Providing customized programs will be helpful to enhance the efficiency of promotion and education to the population with low awareness level of myocardial infarction symptoms.
