Quality and patient safety issues are emerging as major issue in health policy fields and become competitive edges of hospitals under turbulent environments. Reviewing the polices related to quality for past two decades, hospital evaluation programs evolved systematically and sophisticated ways, and have had key roles in improving quality of care. A big cornerstone was the transition from the forced evaluation programs to voluntary basis program in 2010. While accreditation program is charged of central role, several evaluation programs for hospital are also operated by governmental sectors or insurer including HIRA, resulting big burden to hospitals. Currently, to facilitate quality in medical fields, there are some challenges related to policy changes including integration of segmented evaluation program, changing from regulatory and bureaucratic approaches to motivated ways and developing financial support to invest infrastructure.
