국내 디자인 산업규모 확대 및 디자인 인력의 증가와 함께 디자인의 산업적·경제적 가치는 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이러한 디자인의 가치증가와 더불어 정부 또한 국내외적 산업흐름에 맞는 디자인정책을 수립하고 이에 맞는 정책시스템을 구축해야한다. 이러한 관점에서 본 논문은 국내 디자인산업규모 및 디자인 인력과 디자인의 경제적 가치현황을 알아보고, 한국디자인진흥원(KIDP)의 ``산업디자인 통계조사``를 기반으로 국내 중앙부처 및 지방자치단체의 디자인관련 정책현황에 대해 분석하였다. 분석결과, 디자인의 산업적·경제적 가치가 확대되어 가고 있는 국내 산업현황에 반해, 국내 공공기관 내 디자인 가치는 지속적으로 감소되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 디자인 예산 감소로 인한 디자인 전담부서·디자인 인력의 지속적인 감소 및 직원 디자인교육의 부재가 나타났다. 이러한 디자인관련 정책개선을 위해서는 디자인에 대한 인식개선 및 전문성 확충이 선행되어야 한다. 이를 위한 디자인 교육시스템 구축이 요구되며, 디자인의 명확하며 광범위적 활용을 위해 체계적 디자인 전담부서 조직구성이 이루어져야 한다.

Industrial and economic value of design has increased steadily with expansion of the design industry and increasing the number of design profession. In terms of increasing of the design value, Korean government has to establish a design policy that responds to the rapidly changing global environment with a well-timed design policy system. Therefore, this study investigated the trends of design industry size and design personnels with the economic value of design in korea at first. Secondly, this study analyzed the status of design policies into the domestic central government and local governments using ‘KIDP Korea design statistical data’. As a result, the design value within the domestic public institutions has been continually reduced while industrial and economic value of design has expanded constantly at home and abroad. Reduction of design departments and the public design officials has happened with a lack of design education systems through the budget cut of design part. It has to be preceded by improving the awareness of design to improve the design policy nationally. Then it is needed to establish the design education systems and organizing design organizations for the well-defined and wide use of design.
