이 연구는 담화 단위 사회 방언(변이)에 대한 대규모 조사를 위한 최적의 방법론을 모색하는 것을 궁극적인 목적으로 하고, 좀 더 구체적으로는 시안의 수준에서 조사 항목을 선정하고 조사 문항을 개발하는 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 기존 연구 검토를 통해 담화 단위에서 여러 가지 사회적 변인에 따라 다양한 방언(변이)을 보일 것으로 예상되는 12개의 조사 항목을 선정했다. 다음으로 담화 단위의 특성을 드러낼 수 있도록 고안된 담화 완성형 테스트를 수정·변형하고 예상 응답을 제시하여 선택하게 하는 방법을 통해 12개의 조사 문항을 개발했다. 그 결과, 이 논문에서는 12개의 조사 항목별로 제보자의 지위나 역할, 대화 상대자의 관계나 친밀도 등이 포함된 상황 설명 및 질문과 체계적으로 제시되는 예상 응답으로 구성되는 조사 문항 개발을 위한 구성표들을 제시할 수 있었다. 향후 연구에서는 이 연구에서 제시한 조사 항목과 문항의 적절성을 담화 단위 사회 방언(변이)에 대한 실제 조사를 통해 검증하는 것이 필요하다.

The ultimate goal of this study was to seek the best method for the large-scale survey of social dialect(variation) in the discourse level, more specifically to select the survey items and to develop the survey questions as a draft proposal. First of all, this study selected 12 survey items which are likely to show various social dialect(variation), depending on different social factors in the discourse level, by reviewing many existing researches. And then, this study develop 12 survey questions which consider the characteristics of discourse level, by modifying discourse completion test(DCT) method and by adopting the way an informants chooses one among many expected answers. As a result, this study can propose 12 configuration tables to develop the survey questions. This tables include the circumstantiation on status or role of informant, relation or intimacy with interlocutor, etc. and expected answers systematically presented.
