This thesis is to annotate two works of < Jeoensangjeon(楮先生傳) > personifying paper and < Jinhyeonjeon(陳玄傳) > personifying ink stick in volume 5, 『Hyejeonjip(蕙田集)』 by Na Hun-yong(羅獻容, 1851~1925), a literary person of the late Chosun Dynasty. Na Hun-yong’s surname is Heedo(羲圖) and his pen name is Hyeeon(蕙 田). He lived as a hermit scholar, refused to take the office of Jangneung(莊 陵) Chambong in 1898 and focused on writing books, all of which are recorded in 『Hyejeonjip(蕙田集)』 published in 1937. Looking into poems written in Chinese in volume 1~4, one can see how deplorable the author felt about Eumisabyeon(乙未事變) and Agwanpacheon (俄館播遷). One can also see Na’ valiant patriotism unfolded with a pen through < Cheongkukjeongbyeon(淸國政變) >, < Dokrphoe(獨立會) >, < Illojeon(日 露戰) > and so forth. One can also see, however, that the author was of mild and generous personality through < Sangchoon(傷春) > depicting spring emotion and < Nocheohoegap(老妻回甲) > written on the occasion of his wife’s 60th birthday. Proses in volume 5 also show his views on the history. Na was also interested in using the allegorical method in the process of revealing his will and comical sentences, which seems to be also related to his creating stories in various personified patterns such as legendary stories, epitaphs, memorial inscriptions and so forth. His case of unfolding Saudam(or Stories of Four Friends(四友譚)) in such various genres can be counted as the unique one up to now. Na’s another characteristic is that he formed a exotic way of adding annotations to the end of his works, omitting the concluding part observed as a principle until then in the Korean legendary stories.
