본 연구는 어린이집 원장이 인식하는 원장 이미지를 운영주체별로 수집·분석하여 각 유형별 원장이 인식하는 역할을 추출해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 B시 국공립 어린이집, 민간 어린이집, 가정 어린이집 원장 각각 30명 씩 총 90명을 대상으로 어린이집 원장을 무엇인가에 비유해보고 그 이유를 기술하도록 하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어린이집원장이 인식하고 있는 이미지는 긍정적인 이미지 5가지, 부정적 이미지 4가지로 총 9가지로 정리되었다. 어린이집 원장들은 자신의 이미지를 부정적(24.4%)보다는 긍정적(75.6%)으로 인식하고 있었으며, 설립 유형별로 인식하는 이미지에 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 원장들이 인식한 이미지를 토대로 각 유형별 역할을 추출한 결과 총 7가지의 역할이 나타났으며 설립 유형별로 각 역할에 대한 인식에 차이가 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to find the reality of the role of child care center``s principal by type of child care center establishment through the image of the principal that was realized by themselves. To achieve this, 90 principals were surveyed with figured sentence that "Kindergarten``s principal is __________" along with the reasons. 90 principals were classified as 30 according to each type of child care center establishment(nateiona/public child care center, private child care center, home child care center). Results for this study are as follows. First, nine images of child care centers``s principals were analyzed. 9 images were grouped into 5 positive images and 4 negative images. The principals had more positive(75.6%) self image than negative re(24.4%). Tendency of principals by type of child care center establishment was different. Second, seven roles of principal by type of child care center establishment were drawn from the image of principal. Recognition of the role of principals were different by type of child care center establishment.
