본 연구에서는 만 20세 이상, 만 58세 이하의 성인들을 대상으로 그들의 자아분화 수준이 그들의 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향을 기본 심리적 욕구 만족이 매개하는지를 검증하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 A 온라인 대학교 재학생들에게 설문을 실시하여 총 317명의 자료를 대상으로 구조방정식 모델을 사용해 분석을 실시하였다. 자아분화에서 삶의 만족도로 가는 직접경로를 설정한 부분매개모형과 두 변인 사이의 직접경로를 삭제한 완전매개모형을 비교하였다. 그 결과, 직접경로를 설정한 부분매개모형이 좀 더 적합도가 우세한 것으로 확인되었다. 이로써 성인들의 자아분화 수준은 직접적으로 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라, 자율성, 관계성, 유능성으로 구성된 그들의 기본 심리적 욕구 만족을 촉진함으로써 삶의 만족도에 간접적으로 영향을 미침을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉 자아분화 수준은 기본 심리적 욕구 만족을 촉진함으로써 개인의 삶의 만족도를 높이는 것으로 보인다. 마지막으로, 본 연구결과가 상담 및 심리치료 실제에 주는 시사점과 의의, 본 연구의 제한점과 추후 연구의 방향들을 논의하였다.

The present study examined the mediation effects of the basic psychological needs satisfaction on the link between differentiation of self and satisfaction with life with data from 317 adult-participants of various age groups. Research participants were students of A on-line university located in Seoul. Results showed that a partial mediation model produced a better fit to the data than a complete mediation model including no direct path between differentiation of self and satisfaction with life. Analysis supported partial mediation model whereby the basic psychological needs satisfaction partially mediated the link between differentiation of self and satisfaction with life. These results indicated that adults`` level of differentiation of self had a direct effect on their satisfaction with life as well as an indirect effect on their satisfaction with life by fostering their basic psychological needs satisfaction consisting of autonomy, competence, relatedness. Overall, differentiation of self seems to provide people with satisfaction with life by fostering the basic psychological needs satisfaction. Finally, the implications of the current findings for counseling services and suggestions for future study were discussed.
